Australian star cricketer Steve Smith, who had undergone an elbow surgery in January 2019, has recovered from the same. He was seen batting in the nets for the first time after the surgery. Smith had to rush back to Australia in January
The cricketer had to return to Australia in January, from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after playing just two matches. Smith missed the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he was undergoing rehab. But now he is getting tuned to feature in the IPL 2019 season. The IPL could serve as a platform to gain confidence before the ICC World Cup 2019.
Smith's 12-month ban set to be over in March end
Earlier, the CA had stated that Smith will be in the reckoning for the national team, if he performs well in the T20 leagues. His 12-month ban from international cricket is set to be over on March 29. Smith was banned last year for his involvement in a ball-tampering scandal in the Test series against South Africa.
What's next for Steve Smith?
Smith's availability will be a big factor for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Smith can also be considered for the final two ODIs against Pakistan after March 29. Some strong performances could see him and fellow cricketer David Warner get selected in Australia's World Cup squad. Smith could feature in the IPL till April end. He will join Australia's preparation camp post that.
Australia's coach Justin Langer on Smith and Warner
"From all accounts they should both be ready for the IPL, which is really positive. Dave's probably a little more advanced but my understanding is they'll be ready to go in the not-too-distant future," said Australia's coach Justin Langer.
