The 26-year-old gay freestyle skier from America is winning hearts with, what is now being hailed as the landmark moment, where he kissed his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas on live television at the Olympics. Gus Kenworthy, a prominent voice of LGBT community
Gus Kenworthy is a British-born American freestyle skier who won a silver medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. A prominent voice of the LGBT community, Gus came out in 2015. He was presented with a 'Visibility Award' in 2017 by the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT rights advocacy group. He is one of the three openly gay athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Responding to the attention his kiss garnered, Gus tweeted, "Didn't realize this moment was being filmed...My childhood self would never have dreamed of seeing a gay kiss on TV at the Olympics but for the first time a kid watching at home CAN! Love is love is love." His partner, Wilkas said that the kiss being televised is good because it normalizes it more.
Representation is the way forward
"The only way to really change perceptions, break down homophobia, break down barriers is through representation." said Gus Kenworthy.
