India's rising men's singles badminton player Lakshya Sen claimed his fourth title in three months. He went on to bag the Scottish Open title with a thrilling win over Brazil's Ygor Coelho in the men's singles summit clash. The top-seeded Indian overcame his opponent 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 in a 56-minute final. Here are further details.
Lakshya had a superb show in the tourney
Lakshya dished out some superb performances right from the start in the tourney. The youngster began his campaign with a straight-game win over Austria's Luka Wraber. He then defeated compatriot Kiran George to reach the quarters. The world number 41 then recorded another straight-game win over sixth-seed Brian Yang before seeing off France's Christo Popov in the semis.
Sen bags fourth title this year
2019 has been superb for Sen. The 18-year-old from Uttarakhand has now clinched three titles out of the four tournaments that he has played since September this year. He sealed the likes of SaarLorLux Open, Dutch Open, and Belgian International prior to this title.
Lakshya to enter top 40 in BWF Rankings
After this win, Lakshya is set to break into the top-40 in the BWF Rankings. He will inch closer to a direct qualification in the top grade 2 events. The shuttler has joined fellow Indians Anand Pawar (2010 and 2012), Arvind Bhatt (2004) and Pullela Gopichand (1999) in winning the Scottish Open title. This is a big moment for the teenager.
Syed Modi International: Focus on Lakshya and Saina
Lakshya is set to ply his trades at the Syed Modi International Super 300 tournament in Lucknow, starting Tuesday. Lakshya will eye his third BWF World Tour title in the upcoming tourney.
