The vice-captain of the Under-19 team is screaming out to the Indian selectors saying 'I am ready for the next step'. Gill averages 101.60 in Youth ODIs
At the Under-19 World Cup, Shubman has registered scores of 63, 90* and 86 so far. The 18-year-old from Punjab has the highest batting average in any international format taking 1,000 plus runs into consideration. Even Sir Donald Bradman's Test average of 99.94 is second to Shubman Gill's Youth ODI average of 101.60.

Shubman is also the fastest to 1,000 runs in Youth ODIs. The youngster achieved the feat in just 13 innings. Sir Donald Bradman also took 13 innings to reach 1000 Test runs. The right-handed batsman from Punjab is only the 6th player and the second Indian cricketer, after Gaurav Dhiman, to score five consecutive fifty-plus scores in Youth ODIs.

Shubman Gill has scored 1,016 runs in 14 matches at a stunning average of 101.60 and a strike rate of 102.73. He has already scored 3 hundreds and 6 fifties in 13 innings so far. Shubman has the highest batting average among cricketers who have scored 600 plus runs in Youth ODIs.

The right-handed batsman is blessed with the right technique. He recently pulled off a breathtaking short arm jab for a six, similar to that of Indian captain Virat Kohli's six against England 12 months ago. This has not gone unnoticed with the BCCI, which immediately posted a comparison of the two shots on their social media page.

Shubman first made headlines, when he was part of a world-record opening stand of 587 runs in U-16 Punjab inter-district tournament alongside Nirmal Singh. Since then, he has come a long way and idolises Indian captain Virat Kohli for his skill and fitness. Judging by his consistency and batting technique, he could be India's Kohli 2.0 in the making.
