Champions Trophy: Shubman Gill slams his second successive ODI hundred
What's the story
Indian cricket team's opener Shubman Gill has brought up his eighth hundred in ODI cricket.
He left spectators in awe with his extraordinary batting display in India's 2025 ICC Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
This was his second successive hundred and fourth back-to-back 50-plus score in the format.
His brilliance powered India to a comfortable six-wicket win.
Opening partnership
India's strong start in response to Bangladesh's total
Chasing 229, India started their innings on a strong note with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitching a 69-run partnership.
However, Sharma was dismissed for 41, off Taskin Ahmed's delivery.
Though the likes of Virat Kohli (22), Shreyas Iyer (15), and Axar Patel (8) fell cheaply, Gill continued to hold one end.
Alongside KL Rahul, he took India past the 200-run mark and completed his hundred during the course.

The significance of Rahul-Gill partnership
Notably, India were reduced to 144/4 when Gill was joined by Rahul. The duo batted sensibly and recorded an unbeaten 87-run stand. While Gill scored a hundred, Rahul made 41* off 47 balls as India (231/4) prevailed with 21 balls to spare.
Captain's reaction
Gill's 6 leaves Sharma in awe
One of the opener's shots was so powerful that it traveled an impressive 98 meters.
This feat left his skipper Rohit Sharma, who was at the non-striker's end, smiling and shrugging in acknowledgment of Gill's exceptional skill.
The six came during the ninth over of India's innings when Gill confidently faced pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Fourth successive 50-plus score for Gill

Match progress
Hridoy, Ali rescue Bangladesh
Despite losing five wickets for a mere 35 runs, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 228/10.
