Shubman Gill, India's cricketing star, will be next seen in the 17th edition of the Duleep Trophy. The 24-year-old has been appointed as the captain of Team A for the upcoming event, which commences on September 5. Meanwhile, Gill is enjoying his break from cricket in Greece before the First-Class competition. On August 25, shared a picture from his vacation on social media. Gill to lead Team A in Duleep Trophy
Gill's team for the Duleep Trophy includes prominent players such as Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, and KL Rahul. This leadership role follows his recent stints with Team India during their tour of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The T20I series against Zimbabwe marked Gill's first captaincy assignment in Indian colors.
Gill's performance during India's tour of Sri Lanka
During India's tour of Sri Lanka, Gill served as vice-captain for both the T20I and ODI series. He scored 73 runs in two T20Is but missed the second match due to a neck sprain. In the subsequent ODI series, his performance with the bat was less impactful, with a total of just 57 runs from three innings. Notably, India suffered a 0-2 defeat in the ODI leg.
Gill aims for form revival in Duleep Trophy
Gill is now focusing on regaining his form in the Duleep Trophy 2024, as part of his preparation for Team India's red-ball season. This comes ahead of a two-match home Test series against Bangladesh, where he will be looking to boost his confidence with some strong performances. The opening match of this series is scheduled to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.
Upcoming Test assignments for Team India
Following the Bangladesh series, Team India will host New Zealand for a three-Test series starting October 16. They are then set to tour Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first match of this five-Test series is scheduled to take place at Perth Stadium in Perth on November 22. Gill's form with the bat will be crucial as India aims to reach their third consecutive World Test Championship final.
