Shubman Gill to miss Bangladesh T20Is, BCCI official confirms
Shubman Gill, the Indian T20I side's vice-captain, will not take part in the impending three-T20I series against Bangladesh, a BCCI official confirmed. The series is set to commence on October 7 after the Test leg. This decision is in line with the BCCI's workload management policy. The board aims to prioritize Test matches and One Day Internationals (ODIs) over T20Is.
Gill's role in India's Test line-up
Gill has been a key player in India's top order for Test matches, typically batting at number three. He has been featuring alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It is expected that Gill would be a mainstay in India's upcoming Test season. The decision to rest him from the Bangladesh T20I series is part of a strategic move to manage his workload effectively.
A look at official statement
"Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad)," a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity. They added, "So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break."
Gill led India in Zimbabwe series
Gill has an impressive T20I record, having played in 21 matches for India. He recently led the team to a 4-1 victory in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in Harare. However, regular captain Suryakumar Yadav is expected to take over in the Bangladesh series. As has been the case, India will field a young side for the same.
