Shubman Gill races to his seventh ODI century, sets records

Star Indian opener Shubman Gill has completed his seventh century in ODI cricket.
Gill, who recently became Team India's ODI vice-captain, reached the three-figure mark in the third match against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gill also became the fastest batter to 2,500 ODI runs during the innings. He attained several other records.

Gill lost his opening partner and skipper Rohit Sharma initially after England to field.
However, the former negotiated the English seamers, who swung the ball, and kept the scoreboard ticking.
Gill added a 116-run stand with Virat Kohli for the second wicket to give India impetus.
Although Kohli departed after scoring his half-century, Gill raced to his century off 95 balls.

Gill has been in incredible form in the three-match ODI series. He scored 87 and 60 in the first two ODIs.
As per Cricbuzz, Gill is the seventh player with fifty-plus scores in each match of a three-ODI bilateral series for India.
He has joined Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, MS Dhoni, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan on this elite list.
Milestone
Fastest to 2,500 ODI runs
As mentioned, Gill also completed his 2,500th run during his innings. He is now the fastest batter to this mark, having reached here in 50 innings.
This puts him ahead of the record previously held by South African legend Hashim Amla, who scored his 2,500th run in his 53rd innings.
Among Indians, Gill went past Shreyas Iyer for this record.
Feat
First Indian with this feat
As per Cricbuzz, Gill has become the first Indian with a century at a venue in all three formats. He slammed a century in a T20I against New Zealand and an ODI against Australia, both in 2023, in Ahmedabad.
Overall, Gill joins Faf du Plessis (Wanderers, Johannesburg), David Warner (Adelaide Oval), Babar Azam (National Stadium, Karachi), and Quinton de Kock (Supersport Park, Centurion).
