Shreyas, Thakur to play for Rahane-led Mumbai in Irani Cup
Indian players Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur are set to participate in the impending Irani Cup match. They will turn up for Mumbai against the Rest of India in the anual domestic cricket fixture, starting October 1 in Lucknow. Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane will once again take charge of the team for this event. He earlier led led Mumbai to their record 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
Thakur's return strengthens Mumbai's squad
Thakur's inclusion in the team is a significant boost for Mumbai, as it enhances both their bowling and batting capabilities. The all-rounder has been out of action since June due to an ankle surgery but made a successful return in the KSCA tournament. A Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) senior official confirmed that Thakur is now ready for the five-day First-Class fixture.
Iyer eyes international comeback with Irani Cup
Iyer, who missed the cut for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, is also will now feature in the Irani Cup. The batter last played for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka. He also led India D in the Duleep Trophy. This match will be a pivotal opportunity for him to earn his spot back in the Indian team for future international assignments.
BCCI announces inauguration of new NCA in Bengaluru
In related news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will be inaugurated on September 28. BCCI secretary Jay Shah shared this information with state associations via email. The state-of-the-art facility will have three world-class playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, an Olympic size swimming pool and advanced training facilities.
