Shreyas Iyer expresses gratitude toward this duo for unwavering support
What's the story
Star batsman for India, Shreyas Iyer, recently thanked the likes of Abhishek Nayar and Pravin Amre. This comes after Iyer's phenomenal performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The cricketer scored 243 runs in five matches, including two half-centuries.
His steady and tactical batting proved to be instrumental in India's success in the tournament.
Here are further details.
Resilience
Iyer's journey through challenges
Over the last year, Iyer has had a tough time. Despite scoring more than 500 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023, he lost his central contract and spot in India's Test team.
He also led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL 2024 victory but didn't get enough credit for it.
He was then released by KKR before IPL 2025 mega auctions.
Support system
Iyer acknowledges mentors during challenging times
Speaking in a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Iyer opened up about the people who stood by him.
"See, when I am in lows in my life, only a few people message me. And their names are Pravin Amre Sir and Abhishek Nayar. Like I said, Sagar. Sagar, with whom I trained. And there are a few more people who supported me very well at that time. And I will always keep such people with me," he said.
Words
Iyer appreciates Amre and Nayar
Iyer also provided more impetus on Amre and Nayar's role in his life.
"Because these people have always seen me since my young days. When something is going well, then stay normal. But when something goes bad, then they are very good with me. So, I appreciate such a kind of mentality. And if such people are around you, then you will definitely grow."
Mentorship
Iyer's relationship with Amre and Nayar
Notably, Iyer shares a long-standing relationship with Amre from his IPL days with Delhi Capitals.
He also worked closely with Nayar during his time at Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 and 2024.
A Mumbai native, Nayar has played a key role in Iyer's career development at the club and Indian team levels.
