Duleep Trophy 2024: Shreyas Iyer departs for seven-ball duck
Shreyas Iyer, the captain of India D, made a unique fashion statement during the Duleep Trophy match against India A in Anantapur. Known for his distinctive style both on and off the field, Iyer surprised spectators by wearing sunglasses beneath his helmet. This unusual choice was not a fashion statement but a practical response to the intense sunlight at that time of day.
Iyer bags a seven-ball duck
Despite his unique approach to counter the sunlight, Iyer's performance did not meet expectations as he bagged a duck. His innings was cut short after just seven balls, a stark contrast to his impressive 54-run knock in the previous match against India C. Iyer could only manage to hit a full-pitched delivery straight to Aaquib Khan at mid-on, who took an excellent catch and gave Khaleel Ahmed his second wicket of the day.
Here are his First-Class numbers
As per ESPNcricinfo, playing his 74th First-Class match (125 innings), Iyer has scored 5,727 runs. He averages above 48 with the help of 13 tons and 31 fifties. Notably, 811 of his runs have come for India in Test cricket at 36.86. The batter was dropped midway through the home Test series against England earlier this year. Iyer hasn't been selected for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh as well.
India A's innings ends at 290 on Day 2
Earlier in the day, India A was bowled out for 290 with Shams Mulani (89) narrowly missing his maiden first-class century. Harshit Rana claimed four wickets in this innings. The first over of India D's innings saw Khaleel dismiss Atharva Taide after the left-handed batter shouldered arms to offer no shot to a delivery that nipped back in sharply, marking a challenging start for Iyer's team.
