Shreyas Iyer clocks his second duck in Duleep Trophy 2024
Shreyas Iyer is battling a dismal run in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy. After seeing India D lose the first two matches, Iyer managed a five-ball duck in a third-round clash against India B on Day 1 at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B, Anantapur. Iyer walked in when India D were 172/3. He had a short stay at the crease.
Iyer fails to take a chance and show his mettle
Iyer was dismissed by spinner Rahul Chahar, who ended the former's stay in the 49th over of India D's innings. Notably, India D made a strong start with openers Devdutt Padikkal and Srikar Bharat adding 105 runs. Both players hit respective fifties. Nishant Sindhu (19) and Iyer (0) perished thereafter. Iyer failed to capitalize as he missed out on another opportunity.
Iyer averages 20.80 in Duleep Trophy 2024
This was Iyer's second score of 0 in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. He scored 9 and 54 in the opening round clash against India C. Thereafter, he managed 0 and 41 versus India A. Across five innings, Iyer owns 104 runs at 20.80.
Iyer's Test future looks bleak
Iyer, who scored a historic ton on his Test debut in 2021, has been struggling to maintain his form in the longest format. His difficulties with short-pitched deliveries have been a significant hurdle in his international career. The middle-order batter also lost his BCCI's central contract. Iyer's Test future looks bleak with poor show in the ongoing tournament not helping him.
Iyer unlikely to feature for India in whites
Iyer was left out of India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh. He is expected to play for Mumbai in the Irani Cup and Team India in the Bangladesh T20I series. However, reports claim that Iyer is unlikely to be included in India's tour of Australia for a five-match Test series. He is also set to miss the New Zealand home series.
