IPL 2022: KKR appoint Shreyas Iyer as captain
The Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The decision was expected after the eastern giants got hold of Iyer in the IPL 2022 mega auction over the weekend. Iyer bagged a staggering deal of Rs. 12.5 crore after the teams got into a bidding war for him.
Iyer led DC to IPL final in 2020
Iyer made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals in 2015. In 2018, Iyer was appointed DC's captain midway through the season after Gautam Gambhir stepped down. The former led DC to the playoffs in 2019. DC played their first-ever IPL final under him, in 2020. Iyer had to miss the first half of the IPL 2021 due to an injury.
Smart move by KKR to get Iyer
In Shreyas Iyer, KKR have got a solid player, who has shown his leadership qualities in the IPL. Iyer is a stylish versatile cricketer with a lot of pedigree. The Indian cricketer has fetched a good deal and KKR will be delighted with the business done. This was a smart move by the two-time champions, who will want to build the team around Iyer.
