Shreyanka Patil vies to become 'best all-rounder' after WBBL snub
Shreyanka Patil, a rising star in Indian women's cricket, has expressed her determination to improve her skills following her exclusion from the 2024 Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). Despite this setback, Patil remains optimistic about her future in the sport. She gained recognition for her bold batting style during the Women's Premier League (WPL) last year and has since established herself as a skilled off-spinner.
Ambition to excel as an all-rounder
Patil, who debuted internationally last year, is now preparing for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), starting October 3. Despite her initial success as a bowler, she aims to enhance her batting skills and become a top-tier all-rounder. "I am very happy for the six Indians who got selected and wish them good luck. I am a little disappointed, yes, but I know what areas I must work on," she told India Today.
Journey in international cricket
In her international career so far, Patil has taken 21 wickets from three ODIs and 12 T20Is, including two three-wicket hauls. She also emerged as a wicket-taker representing Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2023 WCPL. Despite facing challenges owing to a finger injury and initial struggles in WPL 2024, she won the Purple Cap with 13 scalps from eight innings.
Rise to fame and future prospects
Despite a less impressive batting performance in 2024 compared to the previous year, Patil's bowling skills have earned her widespread recognition. She has become a well-known figure among cricket fans and continues to receive support from her followers. Looking ahead, she is determined to overcome the challenges posed by her WBBL contract exclusion and injury during the Asia Cup.
