Supreme Court issues show cause notice to BCCI office bearers
BCCI office bearers, secretary Amitabh Choudhary, treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary and acting president CK Khanna, were given show cause notices by the Supreme Court while Amitabh was also issued a contempt notice. The notices were issued because the Justice Lodha reforms have not yet been implemented. Senior advocate Gopal Subramanium informed the three judge bench that BCCI hasn't implemented anything from its July 24 order.
What happened at the July 26 SGM
The Supreme Court had asked the BCCI to adopt the Lodha Panel suggestions, in its July 24 order. At the July 26 SGM, the SC had asked the board to adopt the suggestions as far as "practicable". However, as the BCCI office bearers claimed that they only wanted the board members to be allowed, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri was not allowed to attend.
CoA did not appreciate Johri's absence at the SGM
The CoA did not appreciate Johri's absence. Chairman Vinod Rai maintained that when the working committee is absent, the administrators, and not the office bearers, should managed the BCCI affairs. He believed that the office bearers were possibly trying to limit the role of Johri, which is unacceptable.
What did the CoA ask the BCCI to do
The CoA informed the apex court in their fifth status report that the BCCI officials used the court's expression of 'etc' in a such a way so as to unravel the fundamental core of reforms. The CoA also directed that Amitabh, Anirudh and Khanna be banned from being associated with the country's cricket board's tasks.
Lodha panel recommendations not implemented yet
In the June 26 SGM meeting, BCCI informed the court of a seven-member committee being formed to see how the Lodha recommendations could be implemented in the best possible and swiftest manner. However, the reforms have still not been implemented. For now, the matter has been deferred till September 19. The court has asked BCCI office bearers to appear in person on September 19.
