Injured Shoriful Islam misses second Test against Pakistan: Details here
Bangladesh's fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi due to a groin injury. The news was confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Taskin Ahmed has been named as his replacement in the XI. The left-arm pacer had reported discomfort in his groin area following the first match, and subsequent tests confirmed an injury.
Shoriful Islam's injury and recovery timeline
The BCB released a statement detailing Shoriful's condition. "Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab," said Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan. This injury comes after Shoriful's notable performance in the first Test against Pakistan, where he claimed three wickets and contributed with the bat as well.
Taskin Ahmed replaces Shoriful Islam in second Test
Taskin Ahmed has been selected to replace Shoriful in Bangladesh's starting XI for the second Test. This marks Taskin's return to the format after over a year. The change was announced by Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who confirmed that Taskin was included in the 11 as Shoriful's replacement. Notably, the toss took place on Day 2 as the entire opening day got washed out due to rain.
Bangladesh's upcoming cricket schedule
Looking ahead, Bangladesh's next assignment is a tour of India, beginning with the first Test in Chennai on September 19. The tour includes two Tests and three T20Is, running until October 12. Following their India tour, Bangladesh will host South Africa for two Tests in October before embarking on a full tour of the West Indies in November and December.
