Shikhar Dhawan, a renowned figure in Indian cricket, has announced his retirement from both international and domestic cricket. The 38-year-old cricketer made this announcement on August 24 via his social media account. Known for his exceptional opening performances, Dhawan has been an inspiration for openers worldwide over the past decade. His last international match was in 2022 before making way for younger talents like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan.
Dhawan expresses interest in potential biopic
Following his retirement announcement, Dhawan was asked about the possibility of a biopic being made on his life. He expressed enthusiasm for the idea, stating that he would be happy to act in it if he could contribute positively to the film. "I would love it, only if it is made well," Dhawan told Hindustan Times. He also suggested Akshay Kumar or Ranveer Singh as potential actors who could portray him due to their energy and talent.

When questioned about the potential loss of fame following his retirement, Dhawan expressed confidence in his enduring popularity. He believes that his fan base will continue to grow even after he steps away from cricket. "Why will I lose fame if I give up cricket? Who knows, the fame might increase also," Dhawan said. He added that he has made a place in people's hearts not just through cricket but also through his social media presence.

In 68 T20I appearances, he scored 1,759 runs at a strike rate of 126.36 (50s: 11). The southpaw also represented India in 34 Tests, hammering 2,315 runs at 40.61. Seven of his 12 50-plus scores in the format were converted into tons.
