Decoding Shikhar Dhawan's stellar feats in Champions Trophy
What's the story
The 2025 Champions Trophy will kick off on February 19, with Pakistan taking on New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi.
India are strong contenders for this year's title, after their phenomenal performance in a recent home ODI series against England.
Meanwhile, former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan owns a terrific record in this prestigious tournament.
Here are the feats he has scripted in the tourney.
#1
Successive hundreds in Champions Trophy
Shikhar Dhawan is among the only five cricketers to have scored consecutive centuries in the history of Champions Trophy.
The elite list also features legendary batsmen like Sourav Ganguly, Saeed Anwar, Upul Tharanga, and Chris Gayle.
Dhawan recorded the feat in 2013 with centuries against South Africa (114) and West Indies (102*).
These were his first two games in the competition as India tasted glory that year.
#2
Third-most runs in CT history
Dhawan is India's top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy.
The Indian ace scored a mind-boggling 701 runs from just CT 10 matches at an average of 77.88 and strike rate of 101.59.
Only Only Chris Gayle (791) and Mahela Jayawardene (742) are ahead of him in terms of CT runs.
Meanwhile, Dhawan also has the second-best average and best strike rate among batters with at least 400 runs in the tournament.
#3
300-plus run in two campaigns
Dhawan smashed 363 runs in the 2013 Champions Trophy campaign.
Only Gayle (474 in 2006) has scored more runs in a CT edition.
The swashbuckler was once again on song in the 2017 edition, bagging 338 runs that season.
The former Indian opener is the only batter to finish multiple CT editions as leading run-getter.
No other batter has breached the 300-run mark in more than one edition.
#4
Joint-most tons and fifties
Dhawan breached the 50-run mark six times across 10 innings in the Champions Trophy.
He hence owns the joint-most 50-plus scores in the competition. The southpaw shares the top spot with compatriots Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
Dhawan's tally of three CT tons is also the joint-most for any batter. Herschelle Gibbs, Gayle, and Ganguly also boast as many CT hundreds.
