In an interview to Hindustan Times, Mishra said, "He is a local lad and has been doing really well for Team India. I hope he brings similar sort of performances for DC and wins games for us this season. We are getting a good opener."

Dhawan played a crucial role in IPL 11 after amassing 497 runs in 16 matches for SRH. He formed a lethal combination with Purple Cap winner Kane Williamson. SRH reached the final last season. Dhawan will be wanting to shine this season for DC.

In 143 matches, Dhawan has scored a total of 4,058 runs at an average of 33.26. He has 32 fifties under his belt. He is in fray to be among the top five run-scorers in the history of the league. His match-winning abilities helped Sunrisers immensely, especially in their title winning campaign of 2016. Now DC could benefit from his services atop.

Dhawan is expected to open the innings alongside youngster Prithvi Shaw in IPL 2019 for DC. This will see Rishabh Pant come in at number three. It will allow both Shaw and Pant to rally around Dhawan. The two youngsters will be given the license to attack and get the quick runs.
