Prithvi Shaw has got his name into the record books after becoming the youngest Indian to score 100+ runs on debut in Test cricket. The youngster went big against West Indies in Rajkot as he scored 134 runs off 154 deliveries. Shaw sparkled with a lively ton and notched a flurry of records. Shaw goes past Abbas as he slams a ton
At 18 years and 329 days, Shaw became the youngest Indian to score a ton on Test debut. He broke the record held by Ali Abbas Baig, who scored 112 on his debut in the second innings versus England at Manchester in England. Abbas notched the record at 20 years and 131 days in the year 1959.
Shaw fourth youngest to face first ball in Test match
According to a report in ESPN, Shaw was the 13th youngest to make a Test debut for India when he came on to the field on Thursday. He also became the fourth youngest in the world to face the first ball in a Test match after the likes of Hamilton Masakadza, Tamim Iqbal and Imran Farhat.
Shaw joins this elite list on debut
Shaw also became the fourth youngest overall to score a ton on debut in Tests. He joined an elite list comprising the likes of Mohammad Ashraful, Hamilton Masakadza and Saleem Malik.
Shaw was always considered to be the next big thing
Shaw was always touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. The youngster played 14 first-class matches before making his debut for India. In a short first-class career, he averages a stunning 56.72. He has slammed 7 centuries in first-class cricket in just 26 innings. He becomes the first Indian to score debut ton in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and international cricket.
