Can Prithvi Shaw live up to the expectations?
Mumbai's rising star, Prithvi Shaw, will lead India in the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. Under-19 World Cup is the first step and the perfect platform for aspiring cricketers to exhibit their talent. So can Prithvi Shaw go on to replicate the heroics of Virat Kohli? Let us know more about him and other successful U-19 captains.
Prithvi takes giant strides
Prithvi, who was not a part of the Under-19 team that played in Asia Cup, has seen his stock rise in the recent months. He became the youngest centurion in the Duleep Trophy Final and the second youngest in the tournament's history after Sachin Tendulkar. India have won the Under -19 World Cup a record 3 times, will Prithvi & Co. make it four?
Kohli's World Cup success in 2008
In 2008, Virat Kohli led a young Indian side to World Cup success. Since then, he has gone on to not only represent India in all 3 formats, but is now the captain of the national team. Kohli made a name for himself in the Under-19 World Cup, scoring 235 runs in 6 matches including a century.
Kane Williamson's baby steps
Kane Williamson, who is a part of Test Cricket's fabulous four (Kohli, Joe Root and Steven Smith), was also the captain of the New Zealand Under 19 team. Williamson was unfortunate not to win the Under 19 World cup as Kohli and his boys broke their hearts in the semi-finals, but it all began for Williamson that year in Malaysia.
Mohammad Kaif's heroics in 2000
Mohammad Kaif is another former India Under-19 captain who led India to World Cup success in 2000 and made it to the national squad. He is probably one of the best fielders the Indian cricket team has ever produced. Kaif, however, did not have a long career with the men in blue. His inconsistency led to his downfall.
