Shastri says management can't even think of removing MS Dhoni
Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has quashed all doubts regarding MS Dhoni's participation in the 2019 World Cup. Shastri stated that if he can keep up his current form and fitness, there would be no question of him not playing the 2019 World Cup. He also felt that there is more cricket left in Dhoni and said, "It was just a trailer."
Dhoni's performance in Sri Lanka was incredible
In Sri Lanka, Dhoni was in top form with the bat as well as behind the stumps, scoring 182 runs from four innings as well as completing 100 stumpings. In the process, he became the first keeper to complete 100 stumpings in ODI history. Quite obviously, there is no one close to him when it comes to keeping against spin bowling.
Shastri compares Dhoni to Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Kapil Dev
Comparing the World Cup winning ex-captain with the likes of Tendulkar, Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, Shastri said, Dhoni's achievements need to be respected. Dhoni spearheaded the Indian team to win the ODI World Cup after a gap of 26 years. Previously, in 2007, in what was his first captaincy assignment, Dhoni led the team to the T20 World Cup.
Dhoni is absolutely essential for the team
In the current Indian team, Dhoni's experience and maturity are second to none. The youngsters are all very talented but you always need a seasoned campaigner to hold the fort when the going gets tough and that's where Dhoni comes in. Moreover, Kohli can always look towards the former captain for valuable inputs during the match.
Shastri ensures that doors remain open for everyone
There have been reports that the door to the national team has been closed for out of favour players like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. However, Shastri assured that no spots were shut out and that everyone would be given the opportunity. He also revealed that he had spoken to the BCCI about giving rest to some players after the Australia series.
