Shannon Gabriel retires from international cricket: Details and stats
West Indies fast bowler, Shannon Gabriel, has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 36-year-old cricketer made this announcement on his Instagram page, marking the end of a 12-year-long career during which he played 86 international matches. "During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies," Gabriel wrote in his post.
Gabriel's Test career and future plans
Gabriel was most prominent in the Test format, making 59 of his 86 appearances for the West Indies in this category. He debuted in a Lord's Test in 2012 and quickly became an essential part of the team's pace attack. Over his career, Gabriel took 166 wickets at an average of 32.21, including six five-wicket hauls and match figures of 13/121 against Sri Lanka in June 2018.
His numbers in white-ball cricket
Gabriel earned a suprise recall to the ODI squad last year, having last played in the format at the 2019 World Cup. However, he didn't get an oppurtunity in the XI. The pacer hence finished with 33 wickets from 25 ODIs at an average of 34.36 with the best figures of 3/17. His economy rate reads 5.92. He also took three wickets from two T20I apperances.

In his retirement announcement, Gabriel expressed his gratitude to god, his family, and Cricket West Indies administrators for their support during his career. He also thanked his teammates and all those who have supported him along the way. Despite retiring from international cricket, Gabriel plans to continue representing Trinidad and Tobago as well as club and franchise teams worldwide.

Gabriel's career was not without its challenges. He faced a ban from four ODIs in 2019 for using a homophobic slur during a verbal exchange with Joe Root in St Lucia. Despite these lows, Gabriel remains committed to the sport and plans to continue his cricket journey at the club and franchise level post-retirement.
