Mohammed Shami bowls joint-longest over by an Indian in ODIs
What's the story
Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami has set an unwanted record by bowling the joint-longest over in ODIs for the Indian cricket team.
It happened during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai.
Shami was all over the place with his swing and line control, and ended up bowling an 11-ball over to Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, which cost six runs. The over contained five wides.
Record holders
Shami joins Khan and Pathan in 11-ball over club
Shami's 11-ball over puts him alongside former pacers Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan, who have also bowled 11 balls in an over for India in ODIs.
Notably, Khan has also bowled six overs of 10 balls each.
The record highlights how pacers have to keep their line and length intact in pressure matches, especially with new ball.
International ranking
Second-longest over in Champions Trophy history
In the history of Champions Trophy, Shami's over is the second-longest.
The longest overs in this competition have been bowled by Bangladesh's Hassibul Hossain and Zimbabwe's Tinashe Panyangara, both of whom have bowled 13-ball overs.
This puts Shami in the company of a few international cricketers who have had to deal with such issues in their bowling performances during major tournaments.
Information
Five wides by Shami
Although Shami bowled five wides, he conceded a solitary run off the bat in his first over. Imam took a single toward third man on the fourth delivery of that over.
