What's the story

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and reserve player Nurul Hasan are in trouble for last night's altercation during T20l against Sri Lanka and have been fined 25 percent of their match fees by the ICC's disciplinary panel. The duo have also been handed one demerit point each for the level one breach of ICC code of conduct.

Fined 25% match fee

Bangladesh duo handed a demerit point each

Shakib Al Hassan was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which states "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game." Shakib's countryman Nurul Hasan was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.2 which states "conduct that brings the game into disrepute".

No-ball confusion

Why were the Bangladesh players upset?

Bangladesh needed 12 runs from the last 6 balls to secure a victory and seal their spot in the final. Sri Lankan pacer Isuru Udana bowled two short balls, one of which led to the dismissal of Bangladesh's star Mustafizur Rahman. However, the Tigers thought that the square-leg umpire had signalled a shoulder-height no-ball but the umpire actually had ruled it a legal delivery.

Unnecessary actions

Shakib booked for dissent, Nurul for his spat

The incident took place after the umpire declared Mustafizur Rahman out. Shakib was unhappy with the umpire's decision and walked down the stairs and signalled to his player to walk back to the dressing room. Reserve player Nurul Hassan was pulled up for arguing and pointing a finger at Sri Lankan captain Thisara Perera.

First time offenders

Shakib and Nurul plead guilty to charges

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Raveendra Wimalasiri and Ruchira Palliyaguruge, third umpire Ranmore Martinesz and fourth umpire Lyndon Hannibal. Shakib and Nurul on Saturday pleaded guilty. This was the first time that one demerit point was handed to these players ever since the system came into effect on September 22, 2016.
