Shakib Al Hasan joins County Championship team before India tour
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to represent Surrey in their forthcoming County Championship match against Somerset, starting on September 9 in Taunton. This decision comes ahead of Bangladesh's two-match Test series against India later this month. Shakib's inclusion is a strategic move by Surrey, who are currently missing eight players due to their participation in the ongoing three-match Test series against Sri Lanka and IT20 side duties.
Surrey's Director of Men's Cricket welcomes Shakib
Alec Stewart, the Director of Men's Cricket at Surrey, expressed his delight at having Shakib on their team. "When the opportunity to bring a player of the quality of Shakib to the Club came along it was an easy decision to make," Stewart said. He further added, "Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey."
Shakib expresses gratitude for opportunity with Surrey
Shakib also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play for Surrey, a club that has won 22 Cunty Championship titles and the 2022 and 2023 editions of the first-class tournament on English soil. "Surrey are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, and I am pleased to get the chance to represent the club," Shakib was quoted as saying.
Shakib's recent form and Surrey's current standing
Shakib recently contributed to Bangladesh's historic 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan. Currently, Surrey are leading the table with 193 points, having secured victories in seven out of their 11 matches. In addition to Shakib, Tom Curran has also been persuaded by Surrey to return to First-Class cricket after a two-year hiatus. Despite missing several key players, they have named seven international players in their squad for the upcoming match.
