Ashwin takes his 29th five-for in Test cricket
With this, Ashwin has picked up his 29th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He already owns the second-most five-fors for India in the format after the great Anil Kumble. Earlier in the innings, the off-spinner took his 266th Test wicket at home, now the second-most.

Ashwin took his 23rd five-for (45 home Tests), going past the tally of James Anderson (22 in 89 Tests). Only Muralitharan (45), Herath (26) and Kumble (25) have more five-fors at home. Ashwin has also become the first-ever bowler to dismiss 200 left-handed batsmen (Tests). His most frequent Test victims: David Warner (10), Alastair Cook and Ben Stokes (9), Ed Cowan and Anderson (7).
The Indian bowlers dominated England throughout the innings
The Indian bowlers didn't let England settle in the first innings. There were on the charge, having reduced the tourists to 39/4 at the stroke of lunch. In the second session, England lost four more wickets in the form of Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Moeen Ali and Olly Stone. Wicket-keeper Ben Foakes remained unbeaten (42) as England were skittled out just after tea.
Axar, Ishant also among wickets for India
Besides Ashwin's brilliant five-wicket haul, Ishant Sharma and Axar Patel also picked up two wickets apiece. Notably, Axar took his maiden Test wicket in the form of English skipper Joe Root. Interestingly, Siraj took a wicket on the very first ball as he dismissed Ollie Pope. This was his maiden ball in Test cricket in home conditions.
