Australia win T20I series against India: Here're records broken
Australia overcame India in the second and final T20I to win the two-match series 2-0. Bengaluru witnessed a special innings from Glenn Maxwell as he slammed a century to help Australia chase a mammoth target of 191. Virat Kohli (72) and KL Rahul (47) played superb knocks for India but it wasn't sufficient as Maxwell went on a rampage. Here are the records broken.
Kohli equals Malik, Dilshan with these separate records
Kohli has 2,263 runs in T20Is at an average of 50.29. He equalled Pakistan's Shoaib Malik (2,263) in career T20I runs and is the joint-third highest run-scorer in the format. Kohli also amassed his 20th career T20I fifty. He now has the joint-highest career T20I fours (223) after equalling the feat of former Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan.
Kohli, Dhoni script 50-plus sixes for India in T20Is
Both Kohli and MS Dhoni came into this match with 48 and 49 T20I sixes respectively. Interestingly, both went on to achieve the mark of 50-plus sixes in T20Is. Dhoni (3) and Kohli (6) now have 52 and 54 maximums respectively. They joined the likes of Rohit Sharma (102), Yuvraj Singh (74) and Suresh Raina (58) in terms of scoring 50-plus sixes for India.
Kohli's record-breaking spree continues
Kohli has now six fifty-plus scores against Australia in T20Is. It is the most for a batsman against an opposition. Kohli went past Kusal Perera's record against Bangladesh. Kohli and Dhoni's 100-run partnership is the third century-plus stand for India, against Australia, in T20Is. The 30-year-old Kohli also notched his ninth 70-plus score in T20Is. He went past Chris Gayle (8) and equalled Rohit.
Rahul impresses once again with the bat
KL Rahul now has 879 runs in T20Is. He needs just 121 runs more to reach the 1,000-run mark. Rahul, who smashed four sixes, has 41 career T20I maximums. He needs nine more to reach fifty. Rahul has also amassed 76 fours. He needs two to get past Yuvraj (77). Rahul and Dhawan opened for the first time in T20Is. They notched 61 runs.
Dhoni surpasses Gayle, Raina in terms of career T20I runs
Dhoni (40) went past a host of batsmen in terms of career T20I runs (1,617). He surpassed the likes of Suresh Raina, Alex Hales (both 1,605), Chris Gayle (1,607), Marlon Samuels (1,609) and Tamim Iqbal (1,613). MSD also became the first Indian player to hit 350 sixes in international cricket. He is two short of representing India in 100 T20Is.
Maxwell at his best!
How did the match pan out?
Rahul and Dhawan added 61 runs for the first wicket with the former scoring 47 out of that. Post Rahul's dismissal, Dhawan and Rishabh Pant fell in quick succession. Kohli and MSD maximized in the last 30 deliveries to give India the momentum. In reply, Australia lost two quick wickets, before Short (40) and Maxwell scripted Australia's chase. Maxi scored his third T20I ton.
