SA Women beat India Women in 4th ODI: Records broken
An incredible effort by the top-order powered South Africa Women to a seven-wicket victory against India Women in the 4th ODI. With this, the visitors have gained an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match ODI series. While defending 267, Team India duly missed the services of fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who didn't play due to an injury. Here are the records broken.
How did the match pan out?
India Women were off to a steady start as SA Women invited them to bat. Although the openers departed early, Punam Raut and Mithali Raj kept them afloat. While Mithali departed on 45, the former slammed her third ODI ton. Harmanpreet Kaur's 54 propelled India to 266/4. Each of the the top four SA batswomen scored 50+ as they completed the run-chase eventually.
Mithali completes 7,000 runs in women's ODIs
During the match, Mithali became the first batswoman to complete 7,000 runs in ODI cricket. The Indian captain crossed the 7,000-run mark in her 192nd innings. She now has 7,019 runs from 213 ODIs at a formidable average of 50.49. It is interesting to note that Mithali has 1,027 more runs than the next-best Charlotte Edwards (5,992) on the runs tally.
SA's highest successful run-chase in women's ODIs
India Women's 266/4 (50.0) turned out to be their third-highest total in a home ODI. Meanwhile, the visitors topped this by registering their highest successful ODI run-chase (269/3). This was also the highest successful run-chase by any side against India in women's ODIs.
Lee, Wolvaardt shine for SA once again
Once again, Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt starred for South Africa Women. Wolvaardt brought up her fifty off 69 balls, while Lee fired a 57-ball fifty to fuel SA's run-chase. The dynamic duo added 116 runs for the first wicket, their sixth century-stand in ODIs. Notably, Belinda Clark and Lisa Keightley are the only pair with more (10) in the format.
A look at other records broken in the match
Wolvaardt recorded her 21st score of 50+ in ODIs. This is now the most in women's ODIs at the age of 21. This is the first time that four South African women have made 50+ scores in the same ODI (Lara Goodall: 59*, Mignon du Preez: 61). Also, this was the first instance of four players making 50+ scores in a women's ODI run-chase.
Raut slams an astonishing ton
For India, top-order batswoman Punam Raut played a stellar knock. She raced to her third ODI hundred off 119 balls, and eventually finished on 104* (10 fours). With this, she became the first Indian woman to make an ODI century at home since January 2014. Raut has been on a roll in the ongoing ODI series. Her last three scores: 62*, 77 and 104*.
