What did Sarri say about Hazard's contract?
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri spoke up regarding the contract extension of their star performer Eden Hazard. Hazard has been contemplating whether to sign an extension with Chelsea or look for greener pastures elsewhere and still has not made his decision known. His current contract runs till June 2020. What did Sarri exactly say regarding Hazard staying with Chelsea? Find out here.
Hazard earlier spoke of desire to move to Madrid
Hazard had earlier called for a move to Real Madrid after the World Cup because he had played amazing football in Russia. Hazard also added that he did not want to pull a Courtois, who forced Chelsea to sell him by not appearing for training. The Belgian concluded by saying he is thankful to Chelsea because the club has given him everything.
I of course want Hazard to stay: Sarri
Sarri recently said that he was aware of the discussions going on between Hazard's agent and the club officials, but no conclusion has been reached yet. Sarri confirmed that though he wants Hazard to stay, the player's desire will be the most important deciding factor. Reportedly, Chelsea have offered him an extension with a deal of £350,000 per week.
Why is it important to reach a conclusion soon?
If Hazard's contract dilemma does not reach an agreement soon, Chelsea can lose him for nothing at the end of next season. Given the current market, Hazard can easily fetch the Blues more than £100 million with a transfer to clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona or PSG. However, if Hazard wants to seal his name among the GOATs, a move to Spain is important.
Hazard is having a turbulent season with Chelsea so far
Under Sarri, Chelsea seemed to have found a new life, playing aesthetically pleasing, as well as effective football, but are seeing a rough patch of late. They suffered just a single loss this term, but have fallen behind in the title race, with 10 points off table-toppers Manchester City. Chelsea's failure to qualify for Champions League might be the reason behind Hazard's dilemma.
Others players Chelsea might lose soon
While Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a four-year contract extension with Chelsea, the Blues are still at risk of losing important members of the squad like David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas soon if renewed deals with them are not finalized at the earliest.
