Sarri criticizes Kante's role in squad, gets support from Willian
After Chelsea lost their first Premier League match of the season to Tottenham, manager Maurizio Sarri was extremely unhappy and made it known to all the players. Sarri, reportedly spoke to each Chelsea player individually after the match, and later said that what Kante did in the match was not right. He also said that the Frenchman was not his choice of central midfielder.
Sarri wants a different central midfielder
Sarri has also revealed that his preferred central midfielder would be Jorghino or Fabregas, someone with superior technical ability who can hold the pivotal position in the match. "Kanté, in the last match, wanted to solve the match after the first 15 minutes but in the wrong way. He lost his position. He attacked too much the other box", the former Napoli manager said.
Sarri wants to use Kante in a more attacking role
It is believed that Sarri would prefer Kante in a wider role, concentrating more on attacks. It cannot be denied that Sarri's observation is right, because even statistics have shown that Kante's playing style has changed since his days at Leicester. Kante's interceptions have become gradually lesser as has his number of touches in the opposition box have gone up
Willian believes there is always room for improvement
Willian, who recently completed 600 career games, said that he believes the entire squad has a scope for improvement. The Brazilian does not find it incorrect that Kante has been blamed, and though he didn't directly accuse the World Cup winner, he said "Even when you play good, you have to continue, you must not stop. Not only N'Golo, but every single player has to improve."
Chelsea have made things difficult for themselves
With the loss against Tottenham, the Blues had slipped to the fourth spot on the Premier League table. However, with their 2-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, coupled with Tottenham's loss to Arsenal at the Emirates stadium, Chelsea now sit third on the Premier League table with 31 points - seven points behind league leaders Manchester City.
