Maurizio Sarri came to know about his sacking on TV
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has revealed the manner in which he came to know about his sacking from Serie club Napoli. The experienced manager had two years left on his Napoli contract. Under him, Napoli put in a great fight for the Italian league title, that was eventually won by Juventus. He joined Chelsea in the summer and replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
Napoli finished 2nd under Sarri last season
Sarri was having some doubts on whether to continue as Napoli boss or not after being approached by Chelsea. He was taking some time to dwell on the same and that's when the Naples club replaced him with Carlo Ancelotti. Napoli finished 2nd in the Serie A last season. He had joined Napoli as manager in 2015. He finished with 65.99 winning percentage.
'We turned on the TV and saw Ancelotti'
Chelsea boss Sarri told Il Mattino: "We were having dinner ... discussing whether or not to stay. We turned on the TV and we saw Ancelotti entering Filmauro (the headquarters of Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis). He then added that, the timing wasn't respected at all as he never asked to leave the club. He also wished Ancelotti success at the club.
Sarri has started well at Chelsea
After losing the Community Shield match against Manchester City, Sarri went on to see his team bag the first 4 games of the Premier League season. They are tied on points with leaders Liverpool. Sarri's methods are slowly settling in and Chelsea will be eager to do well this season. The main target will be a trophy and a top 4 finish.
Sarri has his task cut out at Stamford Bridge
Sarri hasn't won any trophy as a manager and that will test him at Chelsea where winning the league is a norm for managers. Conte won the same in his first year with the Blues and also pocketed the FA Cup last season. He fell out with the board which led to his sacking. Sarri has big shoes to fill in.
