Sarfaraz Khan recalls Virat Kohli's famous gesture from IPL 2015
Sarfaraz Khan, the rising star of Indian cricket, is gearing up to make a mark in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The Mumbai-based cricketer made his Test debut earlier this year against England. However, he missed the chance to play alongside Virat Kohli due to the latter's withdrawal from the series for personal reasons. Now, as he prepares for his next match in Chennai on Thursday, Sarfaraz has expressed his excitement about potentially sharing a dressing room with Kohli.
Sarfaraz admires Kohli's unmatched passion and spirit
In a recent interview with Jio Cinema, Sarfaraz spoke highly of Kohli's dedication to the sport. He said, "His passion and spirit are unmatched." The young cricketer also recalled his first meeting with Kohli during his stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2015 to 2018. He described how he had always aspired to share Team India's dressing room with the accomplished batter.
Sarfaraz reminisces about his 1st encounter with Kohli
Sarfaraz fondly remembered his first encounter with Kohli at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. "I met him at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the first time. I had scored 45 runs in 21 balls here and he bowed at me," he said. This incident took place during an IPL match in 2015, where a young Sarfaraz's impressive performance helped RCB reach a commendable score of 200/7 against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Sarfaraz learned valuable lessons from Kohli's discipline
Sarfaraz also shared the valuable lessons he has learned from observing Kohli over the years at RCB. He highlighted Kohli's discipline toward fitness and game, as well as his ability to maintain a routine and stay self-aware. "He is clear about his game. He knows the work a player needs to keep doing and that criticism or praise shouldn't affect your game," Sarfaraz said, quoting Kohli's approach to cricket.
