Injured Sanju Samson could be out for six weeks: Details
What's the story
Indian cricketer Sanju Samson is headed for a four to six-week break from cricket, after suffering a finger fracture.
The injury was sustained during the 5th and final T20I against England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
The setback will keep him out of Kerala's upcoming Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jammu & Kashmir.
The fracture was caused by a delivery from England's Jofra Archer that hit Samson's index finger.
Recovery journey
Samson begins rehabilitation process
After the incident, Samson has returned to his hometown Thiruvananthapuram. He will resume training after his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Samson will have to get the NCA clearance before returning to competitive cricket.
A source told PTI, "Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets."
Comeback expectations
When will Samson return?
Samson's anticipated return to cricket will be in the 2025 Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
The source added, "In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals."
Despite scoring three centuries in his last five T20Is before the England series, Samson had a dismal run in the five-match series with only 51 runs across all games.
ODI cricket
Samson not part of India's ODI setup
Notably, Samson could not make the cut for three ODIs against England and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
His next possible chance could be a white-ball series in Bangladesh later this year.
Before his injury, he had missed a preparatory camp and didn't play any Vijay Hazare Trophy games, which saw him being ignored for the Champions Trophy selection.
