Sanjay Manjrekar left out of BCCI's commentary panel, claims report
Former India cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has been left out of the commentary panel by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Manjrekar was also not present in Dharamsala for the first One-Day International between India and South Africa on Thursday. Here is more on the same.
'Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel'
The report added that Manjrekar may not be part of the IPL 2020 panel as the BCCI isn't happy with his work. "Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage, it is not on top of our mind. But the fact is they are not happy with his work," a BCCI source claimed.
In 2019, Manjrekar involved in a controversy with Jadeja
2019 was a controversial year in the commentary box for the former Indian cricketer. First, there was the spat with Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja during the ICC World Cup 2019. Manjrekar had called Jadeja a 'bits and pieces' cricketer. The comments didn't go well with the left-arm spinner. Jadeja had taken to Twitter and slammed Manjrekar for his comments.
Manjrekar also had an on-air argument with Bhogle
In the same year, Manjrekar had an issue with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle. Manjrekar had an on-air argument with Bhogle during the Day-Night Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The topic was regarding the visibility of the pink ball where Bhogle had demanded introspection by taking players' views into account.
'I have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea'
"Still I have played twice the number of matches you have played and I m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved. I have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea. @sanjaymanjrekar," the tweet read.
IPL postponed, India-SA ODI series called off
Coronavirus has caused a worldwide catastrophe and all sport in the world has been impacted severely. This led to the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to get postponed. IPL 2020 was set to start on March 29 but has now been scheduled to begin on April 15. Meanwhile, the BCCI called off the ODI series between India and South Africa.
Manjrekar lashed out at Bhogle, regretted his reaction
"You need to ask [the players about visibility] perhaps, [but] for us, those who have played the game, we have a fair idea of what's happening out there," Manjrekar had responded to Bhogle. However, he went on to regret the same later on.
