Sanjay Bangar makes bold predictions on Kohli, Rohit's careers
Former Indian cricket team's batting coach Sanjay Bangar has forecasted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma could potentially match or even surpass the career lengths of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. This prediction comes amid Team India's increased emphasis on managing player workloads. The strategy allows cricketers to choose their participation in series selectively, thereby potentially extending their active years as players.
Modern cricket's evolution could extend careers: Bangar
Bangar, during his appearance on The Rao Podcast, highlighted the role of modern cricket's evolution in potentially extending the careers of Kohli and Sharma. He emphasized that advancements in fitness regimes and support systems could contribute to this outcome. I think Rohit, 37, will play till his body and fitness allows him. Sachin was there till 40, and even Rahul Dravid played till 40."
Bangar underscores Kohli's commitment to Test cricket
Bangar also underscored Kohli's strong commitment to Test cricket, suggesting it would be the last format the prolific batter would leave. "Even with Virat, who is 35, it depends on his body. The last format that he would give away will be Test cricket," Bangar said. He further added, "So, I am sure that you will see Virat playing Test cricket for another five years."
World Cup campaigns could motivate Kohli, Sharma
Bangar also touched upon India's recent World Cup campaigns and their ambition to win the World Test Championship. He suggested that these goals could serve as motivation for Kohli and Sharma to extend their careers further. "In today's time and age, the World Cup is happening every second year, or every year you have an ICC tournament," Bangar explained.
