Sandeep Warrier becomes second GT bowler with this IPL record
Sandeep Warrier was the pick of the Gujarat Titans bowlers against Delhi Capitals in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season in Delhi on Wednesday. Warrier handed the Titans a sound start and picked up a three-wicket haul inside the powerplay. He bowled three overs and conceded 15 runs. Warrier became the second GT bowler with a three-fer in PP overs.
A solid comeback for Warrier in the powerplay
Warrier started poorly in the second over of the match, conceding 12 runs. Jake Fraser-McGurk slammed him for a six and a four. In his next over, Warrier bounced back with the wickets of Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw. Fraser-McGurk was caught at deep square leg. Shaw was caught after an attempted pull shot thereafter. Warrier dismissed Shai Hope, conceding one run from his third.
Warrier joins Shami
As mentioned, Warrier is now the second GT bowler to take a three-fer inside the PP overs. He joined Mohammed Shami, who recorded three such instances for the franchise in the IPL. 4/7 - Mohammed Shami vs DC, Ahmedabad, 2023. 3/10 - Mohammed Shami vs LSG, Mumbai WS, 2022. 3/17 - Mohammed Shami vs SRH, Ahmedabad, 2023.
Second bowler to clock this feat in IPL 2024
Warrier is the second bowler to record a three-fer inside the powerplay this season. Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult did so when he took 3/14 versus Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede.
