Sanju Samson fails Yo-Yo test, dropped from India A squad
Sanju Samson's promising career was dealt another blow after the wicket-keeper batsman was pulled out of India A tour of England. The 23-year-old failed the Yo-Yo test three days back, and the BCCI decided that the Kerala cricketer cannot travel with the squad. The Shreyas Iyer-led India A squad left for London on Sunday. Here's more.
Samson's fitness a concern for the BCCI
Sanju Samson is regarded as one of the finest young wicket-keeper batsmen in the country. According to sources, the 23-year-old gave his fitness test along with his other England bound team-mates. However, due to a few niggles, he couldn't perform well. As a result, he failed the Yo-Yo test and was left behind by the BCCI for the England tour.
Samson's IPL exploits go in vain
The omission from the India squad comes on the back of Sanju's brilliant IPL 2018 campaign. Samson was one the top performers for Rajasthan Royals and helped them reach the play-off stages. The 23-year-old scored 441 runs at an average of 31.50 and a strike rate of 137.81 with his top score being 92*. This was his best IPL campaign till date.
Yo-Yo test is a must to play for Team India
Ever since Virat Kohli was appointed the captain of the Indian cricket team, the 29-year-old has stressed on the importance of fitness tests. Several seasoned campaigners such as Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh were kept out of the Indian squad for failing the Yo-Yo endurance test. Samson will have to meet the minimum criteria if he dreams of playing for India.
