I have understood my game a lot more: Sanju Samson
24-year-old young cricketer Sanju Samson was handed a call-up to the Indian team for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Samson has done well in recent times and also slammed a record-breaking double ton in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Kerala batsman is keen to perform well and said he has understood his game a lot more. Here are the details.
Samson deserved this call-up to the Indian team
Samson has always been oozing with talent and is an aggressive wicket-keeper batsman. However, things haven't been as easy for him since making his India debut in 2015. He has done reasonably well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and various domestic tournaments. But opportunities with the national team didn't materialize. Samson's recent blitz in the Vijay Hazare Trophy has earned him a call.
Samson is an interesting choice for Team India
Samson presents a strong case as a wicket-keeper batsman in Team India. With Rishabh Pant not delivering in limited-overs, Samson could provide stiff competition and keep the former on his toes. In this T20I series, Samson has been roped in as a specialist batsman with Virat Kohli being rested. It is a huge opportunity for the youngster to grab this chance and impress everyone.
I have worked on my strengths, says Samson
Samson said he has worked hard and doesn't try to be perfect. "Mentally and technically many changes have happened in the last five years. I have understood my game a lot more, a lot about myself. I have worked on my strengths and not tried to be the perfect batsman that I tried be for a long time," he said to PTI.
I had lots of high expectations about myself: Samson
Samson also said he has lowered his expectations. "I don't have any regrets. As I said I have gone through a lot of ups and downs. I had lots of high expectations about myself that I should have performed much better than what I did." "I understood that everything has its own time and you have to be patient for your turn," he added.
Go, grab your moment: Gautam Gambhir tells Sanju Samson
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir expressed his satisfaction over the selection the talented Samson. Gambhir has always been an admirer of the player and backed him. "This is well and truly through the gap by Sanju Samson!!! Congratulations on being picked in the T20I squad. Soft hands, nimble feet and hopefully a sane head...go Sanju grab your moment, long overdue," Gambhir tweeted on Thursday.
'The dream is to play and win the World Cup'
Samson said his dream is to win the World Cup. "The dream is to play and win the World Cup for my country. I don't know in which year it will happen. But that is my dream," Sanju said to The Times of India.
