Sam Elliott's record seven-wicket haul powers Victoria to victory
Sam Elliott, a fast bowler from Victoria, has made history by recording the second-best figures in Australia's One-Day domestic cricket history. His exceptional performance of 7/12 came during a match against Tasmania at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. Elliott attained this feat in his 11th List A match, having driven Victoria to a four-wicket triumph over Tasmania.
Elliott surpasses several players
Elliott's record-breaking performance of 7/12 is only behind former Australia pacer Shaun Tait's 8/43 in the history of the competition. Reflecting on his achievement, Elliott said, "I don't know how to describe it. It was just one of those days when everything sort of clicked, it felt very good." He added that these were his best figures ever at any level and expressed satisfaction at scripting history.
Elliott's batting prowess seals victory for Victoria
In addition to his bowling prowess, Elliott also showcased his batting skills by hitting the winning runs. He shared a crucial half-century stand with captain Will Sutherland. This partnership was instrumental in saving Victoria, who had slumped to 72/6. The two added an unbeaten 56 for the seventh wicket, guiding their side to victory with 23.1 overs to spare. As a result, Victoria chased down 127 and won by four wickets.
Pre-match adjustments and training efforts
Elliott revealed that he had made an adjustment to his release in the warm-up, which contributed to his success. He also shared that he had worked on increasing his run-up speed during the pre-season with Victoria bowling coach Adam Griffith, and had got a lot stronger in the gym in order to sustain it in games. These strategic changes and dedicated training efforts played a significant role in Elliott's record-breaking performance.
