Glamorgan's ex-coach Grant Bradburn fined for discriminatory remarks
What's the story
Former Glamorgan head coach Grant Bradburn has been penalized for using discriminatory language.
The 58-year-old was sacked from his position in December following an internal investigation by the Welsh county.
The independent Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) found that Bradburn made comments with "racist connotations" on two occasions and another instance with "sexist connotations."
Here are further details.
Sanctions
CDC's findings and sanctions against Bradburn
The CDC reprimanded Bradburn, warning him about his future conduct.
He is required to attend an educational course and has been given a suspended fine of £500.
The commission ruled the comments made by Bradburn were "prejudicial to the interests of cricket, brought the game and Mr. Bradburn into disrepute, and undermined ECB's [England and Wales Cricket Board] strategic objective of eradicating discrimination from sport."
Club's stance
Response to Bradburn's discriminatory remarks
Meanwhile, Dan Cherry, the chief executive of Glamorgan, backed the regulator's decision.
He stated that they enforce a zero-tolerance policy on discriminatory behavior.
"As soon as issues were pointed out to us we acted swiftly to protect those affected and show a strong line against poor behaviors that do not reflect the club's values," Cherry added as per BBC Sport.
Regulator's statement
Cricket regulator's commitment to addressing discrimination
Chris Haward, director of the Cricket Regulator, emphasized their dedication to combating discrimination in cricket.
He said: "There is no place for discrimination in cricket and normalization of discriminatory language through this kind of conduct is unacceptable. Where such instances are identified they will be investigated and those responsible will be held to account."
Stints
Bradburn's various coaching stints
Bradburn was appointed Glamorgan head coach on a three-year contract in January 2024, succeeding former County Championship head coach Matthew Maynard and limited-overs leader Mark Alleyne.
The 58-year-old previously served as Scotland's head coach from 2014 to 2018.
After that, the former Test off-spinner took on the role of Pakistan's fielding coach before being appointed head coach in May 2023 (two-year deal).
However, he stepped down later that year after Pakistan failed to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
