I knew Prithvi Shaw would play for India: Sachin Tendulkar
Prithvi Shaw is enjoying a dream debut as he struck a ton in the ongoing Test match against West Indies. Shaw smashed 134 on Day 1 of the first Test and became the youngest centurion on debut for India. Sachin Tendulkar has been in awe of the teenager. The Master Blaster said he always knew, one day, Prithvi Shaw would represent India.
Sachin had predicted Shaw will play for India
According to a report in The Times of India, Sachin stated the first time he came across Shaw was years ago. On the first glance he realized that the kid is a rare talent. Sachin was asked to have a look at Shaw by his friend Chavan and the legend was confident that the youngster will end up representing the country.
Shaw's first hurdle is out of the way, feels Sachin
Sachin feels that Shaw has got past the first hurdle and the century will help him now going forward. "As far as I am concerned, the first hurdle that he was going to encounter is out of the way now. It cements your spot in the team and help you announce to the world that you belong here," said Tendulkar.
Sachin highlights Shaw's biggest strength
Sachin also pointed out Shaw's biggest strength and praised him for the fabulous century on Day 1. "I feel he has the knack to adapt to different situations and conditions. To me, that is Prithvi's biggest strength," said Tendulkar. "The way he picked up the line and the length. It was really exceptional." Sachin credited him for being naturally talented.
Shaw was always considered to be the next big thing
Shaw was always touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. The youngster played 14 first-class matches before making his debut for India. In a short first-class career, he averages a stunning 56.72. He has slammed 7 centuries in first-class cricket in just 26 innings. He became the first Indian to score debut ton in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and international cricket.
