Social media brawl: Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman under scanner
Bangladeshi cricketer Sabbir Rahman has come under the scanner of the country's board for getting into a brawl on social media post the side's second ODI against West Indies. The talented cricketer is already serving a punishment for assaulting a child during a First Class game last December. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will investigate the incident as he, allegedly, abused two fans.
'Players have been given guidelines on how to behave'
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury stated that the board would take appropriate steps after investigating the incident. As per reports Chowdhury said, "Players, especially national players, are given definitive guidelines on how to behave with fans and on social media." He added that if there there is a breach of conduct here, then disciplinary committee will take necessary action.
Social media account believed to be Sabbir's
As per a report in Cricinfo, the message was sent to fans from a Facebook page . This page belongs to Shabbir Rahaman Roman, which is believed to be the Bangladeshi player's account. It has more than 90,000 followers. The message contained abusive words as well as threats to physically harm the fan. The account has now been deactivated.
How did the incident come to light?
The player, who is undergoing a poor run of form, has managed just 15 runs in the first two ODIs. This, in turn, saw a fan passing a sarcastic comment on Rahman with another individual tagging Sabbir in the comment. The two fans were blocked by the account post that. Earlier, Rahman was stripped of his central contract for child assault during a match.
