SA20 2025: Joburg Super Kings sign CSK opener Devon Conway
Joburg Super Kings have signed New Zealand opener Devon Conway for the 2025 SA20 season. Conway, who has been a mainstay opener for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, will now ply his trade for the CSK-owned Joburg Super Kings. Notably, Conway is also part of the Texas Super Kings in USA's Major League Cricket (MLC). Here are further details.
Conway's 'casual contract' with NZC
As reported earlier, Conway has opted for a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket (NCZ), making him unavailable for the white-ball games against Sri Lanka in January. These matches coincide with the SA20 tournament. Despite this change, the star Kiwi opener will be available for New Zealand's upcoming Test matches as well as the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Third Super Kings franchise for Conway
As mentioned, Texas Super Kings are the third CSK-owned franchise to add Conway as an opener. Conway has been with the IPL-based Super Kings since the 2022 season. He was part of CSK's title-winning side in 2023. In 23 matches, the Kiwi batter has slammed 924 runs at a strike-rate of 141.28. Conway also averaged 58.60 for Texas Super Kings in 2024 MLC.
JSK, two-time semi-finalists
In 2024, the Faf du Plessis-led Joburg Super Kings reached their second successive SA20 semi-finals. However, eventual runners-up Durban Super Giants ended their run. Conway would want to contribute to JSK's campaign in 2025.
