SA20 2025: Player auction on October 1; squads so far
The buzz around the impending SA20 tournament continues to grow, with pre-signings and retentions locked in for the 2025 season. The all-importnat player auction will now be held on October 1 in Cape Town. As many as 13 slots are yet to be filled. Graeme Smith, the tournament commissioner, made the announcement on August 16. The upcoming SA20 season will be held between January 9 and February 8 next year.
Retentions, wildcard, and rookie player
As per ESPNcricinfo, each of the six teams currently have between 14 and 17 players in their squad, which will be completed on October 1. The six teams can have a maximum of 19 players, including one wildcard and one rookie player. Of the other 17 players, a minimum of 10 have to be South African. The overseas player count can go up to seven.
Dinesh Karthik to feature in SA20
The SA20 league recently welcomed retired Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who joined Paarl Royals. This will be first time an Indian player will participate in the South African T20 league. The SA20 league will also feature several international cricket stars including Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Trent Boult, Johnny Bairstow, Devon Conway, Zak Crawley, Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz among others.
