#INDvsSA 5th ODI: Rohit scores a ton, here're records broken
Rohit Sharma has finally hit form. 3-time ODI double centurion smashed his 17th ODI century off 107 balls. Rohit was given a lifeline by Shamsi when he was dropped at 96. Riding on the back of Rohit's second ODI ton against the Proteas, India set a target of 275 for South Africa. Here's the list of records broken in the first innings.
Rohit has hit second most number of sixes for India
Rohit is now second on the list of most international sixes by an Indian with 265 to his name, ahead of the likes of Tendulkar, Yuvraj and Ganguly. Rohit only trails former India captain, MS Dhoni who has 338 international sixes under his belt.
Rohit & Kohli are never on the same page
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was unlucky today as he got run out. A mix up between Rohit Sharma and Kohli sent the Indian captain back to the pavilion after he had scored just 36. While batting together either Rohit or Kohli has been run out 7 times out of their 62 partnership stands.
Kohli is the heart and soul of the Indian team
Virat Kohli is undoubtedly the most important player for India and that can be proved with these numbers. In the last 5 ODI series, the average second wicket partnership for India has been 100+ in 4 of the 5 series. 110 against Sri Lanka, 47 against Australia, 100 against New Zealand, 116 against Sri Lanka and 132+ against South Africa.
Finally off to a decent start in South Africa
48 scored between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma is the highest opening partnership for India in 19 ODIs on South African Soil since the 74-run partnership between Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag against Kenya in Durban in the semi-final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
Good series for India's top order
Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are the only two Indian cricketers to score 300 plus runs in a bilateral series against South Africa. Both the batsman achieved the feat in this series. While Kohli has 429 runs to his name, Dhawan has scored 305. Previous best was 285 by Sourav Ganguly in 1999-2000.
