India thrash SA to take 2-0 lead, here are records-broken
Virat Kohli and company are inching closer to snatch the number one rank in ODIs after a compelling 9 wickets victory over South Africa in the second ODI at Centurion. Indian spinner, Chahal was the wrecker in chief, claiming a 5 wicket haul to bowl out the home side for a paltry total of 118. Here is the list of records that were broken.
Chahal's magic leaves South Africa bamboozled
Yuzvendra Chahal is in the form of his life. The 27-year-old from Haryana is the first spinner to take an ODI five-wicket haul against Proteas on South African soil. The right arm leg-break bowler, now, has the second-best ODI figures against South Africa in South Africa, after former Pakistan legend Wasim Akram's 5 for 16.
South Africa humbled at home
This is South Africa's lowest total on home soil. Their previous lowest was 119 against England in Port Elizabeth in 2009. Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal's 5 for 22 is the second-best figure by a spinner on South African soil. Only South Africa's Nicky Boje boasts better figures of 5 for 21 in Cape Town against Australia in 2002.
Indian spin duo are the SA's biggest nightmare
If there were any doubts about replacing Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, they have now been laid to rest. Indian spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were the biggest nightmares for South Africa yet again. The Proteas lost 3 wickets in a span of 6 balls. The home side lost their second, third and fourth wicket in that period.
South Africa's weakness against spin exposed
South African pitches are not known to assist spinners, but somehow Indian spinners are weaving their magic. For the first time in 16 years, South Africa have lost more than six wickets to spinners in an ODI at home. The last such instance was also against the men in blue, back in 2001 in Centurion where Indian spinners bagged 7 wickets.
Quinton de Kock's poor form a concern for SA?
South Africa's wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock, who earlier boasted a fantastic record against India, has had a poor series so far. In 8 innings across the Tests matches and the ODIs, de Kock averages 15.62 and has registered scores of 43, 8, 0, 12, 8, 0, 34 & 20. In both the ODIs, he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal.
