What's the story

Former Manchester United forward Robin van Persie has backed present manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Dutchman, who called it quits from football recently, wants to see Ole get backed by the Premier League club. Further he also urged everyone to be patient. United finished sixth in the 2018-19 Premier League and Ole has a crucial season ahead. Here is what Robin van Persie said.

Ole

Ole endured a difficult season in 2018-19

Ole took over as United's interim manager in December 2018 after former manager Jose Mourinho was sacked. The start was superb for Ole as United enjoyed a winning spree. He was then made the permanent boss. But the latter half of the campaign saw them losing points drastically with players committing plenty of errors on the pitch. This led to many questioning his appointment.

I think it is the perfect match: RVP

"I think it is the perfect match, it is just they're having a bad spell. Back in the day it was normal for a manager to get time. Nowadays if you lose six games, you're out. Is that the solution? Give someone time," said RVP.

Plan

RVP outlines the way forward for United

RVP feels trusting Ole is the only way forward for United. "But he got a three-year deal and everyone should look at the bigger picture. His presence, the way he presents the club, is the proper way in my opinion," said RVp. He further added, "Ole is positive, he wants to achieve big things with the club and that is the only way forward."

Stability

United haven't had stability since Sir Alex's retirement

Since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, United haven't had a long-term manager. David Moyes was sacked in his first year. Louis van Gaal was axed right after winning the FA Cup in his second season. There was an upward trend under Jose Mourinho, but he lost the confidence of the dressing room in his third season. Ole is the fourth manager in six seasons.

Our take

United need to back Ole and his vision: Our take

We agree here with RVP in terms of United backing Ole. He needs to build his own squad and take it from there. United have an important season ahead and the primary idea will be to finish in the top four and winning the Europa League. The Old Trafford unit needs to find the stability under someone who knows the club's soul.
