Rohit Sharma ready to captain India whenever opportunity arises
Rohit Sharma has always had an excellent time leading Men in Blue, whenever he has been given an opportunity. He captained the Indian side remarkably well in the Asia Cup 2018, in the absence of Virat Kohli. Sharma also saw India win the inter-continental trophy as he led the team from the front. The player now has spoken about captaining India. Here's more.
Rohit has won every series he has captained
Rohit has been a great leader in ODIs and T20Is. He won the T20I series against Sri Lanka last year. This helped the management to choose him as the skipper for the Nidahas Trophy and rest Kohli. Under him, India were superb in the Tri-nation T20 tournament and won the tourney. Now, to put the icing on the cake, they clinched the Asia Cup.
Rohit gives the team plenty of assurance
When asked about handling the role in the future as well, Rohit said, "Definitely. We have just won so I will surely be ready (for captaincy). Whenever the opportunity comes, I will be ready." His brilliant captaincy has given the selectors another option besides helping Kohli to get timely rest. Further, Rohit can be of help to Kohli on the field.
Rohit satisfied with the team's effort
The Mumbaikar is satisfied with team's performance and laid out his thoughts regarding the side. "I understand the dynamics of this team, how we play our cricket and how we want to go forward as a team. I think in this tournament we have ticked all the boxes." Rohit also helped out players by assuring them that they will get opportunities at large.
Rohit told players to play without pressure
Rohit handled pressure situations well in the Asia Cup as he allowed the players to play freely and keep pressure at bay. That motivated the side and showed that he is a great skipper. "Myself as a captain and our coach, we have to make sure that they have the liberty to go out and play their game without feeling any pressure."
Rohit had an excellent Asia Cup
Rohit had an excellent Asia Cup campaign with 317 runs under his belt. He also helped India win all the 5 matches he captained. MS Dhoni captained the side against Afghanistan as Rohit was rested for the finale.
