Watch: Rohit Sharma shouts at rain gods during 3rd Test
Indian opener Rohit Sharma grabbed headlines as he smashed the sixth century of his Test career. As a result, he went on to break a number of records, while he continued his fine run in the series. However, right before hitting a six to bring up his century, he did not seem very happy, especially with the weather in Ranchi. Here's why.
Rohit urges rain gods to not show up
As Rohit was on 95, he seemed visibly upset as he was looking at the skies repeatedly. Besides nodding his head, he was also spotted saying 'not now'. It is being presumed that he did not want the rain to interrupt the play and his momentum. Moreover, this could have driven him to complete his century with a six.
'Not now', Rohit has a century to score
Records galore as Rohit scripts third century of the series
Below are some of the records broken by Rohit following his century: Has the most number of sixes in a Test series (17*). He became the second Indian-opener to slam three tons in a series, after Sunil Gavaskar. Has now scored the most runs against Proteas, among Indian batsmen, in a series (434*). Has scored the second-most centuries at home without one overseas.
How did the day pan out?
Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first, as he made a change, bringing in spinner Shahbaz Nadeem for pacer Ishant Sharma. The hosts were off to a rusty start, losing three wickets with just 39 runs on the board. However, it was the pair of Rohit (117*) and Rahane (83*) who asserted dominance as India ended on 224/3.
